Bone grafting of the upper and lower jaw is often the first necessary step prior to the implementation of dental implants, as the jaw acts as the foundation on which the dental implant is built upon. The implant needs to be of a sufficient length and thickness to prevent them from becoming overloaded. Only jaw bones of an adequate height and thickness can support such implants and only these are conducive to a prolonged lifespan of the new dental implant.

Please note that we only use your own bone in this bone grafting procedure. The bone needed is taken either from the nearby area on the bone or from the wisdom tooth region.

Every cell that makes up your bone contains your own body’s natural defence system, thus protecting itself from inflammation. As only your own bone is used in these procedures, they are well tolerated and heal fully and healthily. Rejection or inflammation, as with artificial bone, is very unlikely.

Only very seldom, when the jaw is exceptionally thin, is it necessary to take bone from the pelvic bone. In the majority of cases we can gather enough excess bone from the nearby surrounding area or from the wisdom tooth vicinity.

The before mentioned bone grafting procedure is also used in other operations that we offer, such as tooth socket preservation, jaw reconstruction and sinus augmentation.

Location

Like all of our surgical operations, bone grafting will be carried out at our clinic here in Munich, on Cuvilliésstraße.

Anaesthetic

Bone grafting procedures can be done under local anaesthesia, half sleep (premedication/sedation) or under general anaesthesia.

Post Operation

Generally, bone grafting is well tolerated.

After the operation you will receive cool compresses from us to aid the healing process.

Generally, swelling in the cheeks goes down within only a few days.

For your convenience, we are not only contactable during our clinic’s open hours, but are also reachable on the go, 24 hours a day.

Your stitches will be removed one week after your operation.
