Tooth socket preservation concerns the maintenance or renewal of the tooth socket after a tooth has been removed.

After a tooth has been extracted, the tooth socket soon fills with blood and begins to heal itself; transforming into bone within just 6 weeks.

Intact skeletal walls of the tooth socket are prerequisite grounds for this transformation process and the foundation of solid bones.

Should the case arise that the tooth socket has already been attacked by inflammation, we will rebuild the walls of the tooth socket in the same operation.

The renewal procedure by means of a bone transplant is at its simplest immediately after the tooth has been extracted; no further wound would be necessary.

Tooth socket preservation is the most straightforward type of bone grafting procedure.

At a later point in time after the tooth removal, we would need to calculate with larger gaps in the tooth socket, as the bone walls would be attacked and hastily deteriorated by the body.

Ideally, the diseased tooth should be removed by the surgeon who will perform the socket preservation procedure. Large gaps will be reconstructed in a gentle jaw reconstruction operation.

Location

Like all of our surgical operations, a tooth socket preservation procedure will be carried out at our clinic here in Munich, on Cuvilliésstraße.

Anaesthetic

Tooth socket preservation can be done under local anaesthesia, half sleep (premedication/sedation) or under general anaesthesia.

Post Operation

Typically, tooth socket preservation operations are tolerated well.

For your convenience, we are not only contactable during our clinic’s open hours, but are also reachable on the go, 24 hours a day.

Your stitches will be removed one week after your operation.
